as far as i know we made no one angry with last week’s
sermon title. here’s a little follow-up…
i agree the world needs to be reminded, constantly, Jesus is
behind all our blessings, those at Christmas and the rest of the year. and i will
continue to say along with you, “Jesus is the reason for the season.”
but Christmas is the time of year we remember Jesus’ birth,
His coming to earth. so saying “Jesus is the reason for the season” is like
saying “Jesus is the reason Jesus came.” but He didn’t come for Himself. He
came for you. so really, YOU are the reason for this season because YOU are the
reason He came.
but things are out of balance in our culture. we have taken
it for granted that it’s all about us. that’s not the message in the sermon
title above.
when we make everything about ourselves, then really none of
it is. life becomes a drab, black and white image of what it could really be. promises
become faded hopes. and true joy is replaced with situational happiness and selfish
gratification.
but when we make life, and everything else, about Jesus, He
turns it all around and He makes it about us. that’s what Jesus meant in matthew
6:33. read the verses before that one verse. when Jesus is first in our lives, then our daily needs and greater blessings than we can imagine come into our life!
so keep proclaiming, “Jesus is the reason for the season.” somewhere deep inside your heart, you may hear Jesus say, “no, you were.”
