the blessing of a Godly mom

it was during dava’s message to moms this sunday i remembered again how blessed i was to have such a Godly mom - one thing dava mentioned several times - seems like such a no-brainer to me - if you want to raise godly kids - instill in them biblical values - there’s one first step you can take as a mom or dad that will lay a foundation for everything else

my mom gave me and my brothers just such a foundation - it’s deeper than what some of you will hear from these words - it was an attitude toward attending church - please continue reading because there’s much more to it than i think you realize

i never - and i mean never - got up on sunday morning and heard anyone ask “are we going to church?” - it was a given - it was something you just did - because as a christian you need to regularly worship God - to connect with other christians - to be accountable - not to mention God’s word presses the issue as well

it is a lesson in consistency concerning your walk with God - when parents do not model consistency in this most basic area and simplistic way it’s difficult to overcome that - you need to understand that mom - and dad - you cannot make up for this inconsistency through instruction - nor preaching to your kids - they will not be able to hear your words because your actions are screaming too loudly

i can only remember one time in my young life that i stayed home from church - just because i wanted to - there may have been other times but i don’t remember them - i still remember the troubled look on my mom’s face - as she turned away from me - walked toward the door - leaving me at home - against her wishes - it didn’t just make me never want to disappoint her like that again - it made me see again how important she believed it was for me to be in church – every sunday - that was stronger than the best sermon i have ever heard or preached myself on church attendance and honoring God!
