how did you sleep last night? - and how has your day been so far? - i just wanted to remind you what Jesus' friday was like that week - passion week
first of all Jesus didn't sleep - He was kept up all night by those who wanted Him dead - while the rest of the world slept - Jesus and His haters had a very busy night - by morning Jesus had endured 6 hearings - 6 in one night
arrested in the garden - hauled in front of the former high priest of israel - then the current high priest - the physical abuse begins - right in front of their eyes - and they do nothing to discourage it - then Jesus is led before the elders of israel - they determine to seek His execution
then to pilate - governor of judea - the one who says he finds no fault in Jesus - then to herod - ruler of galilee - who quickly sends Jesus back to pilate - pilate tries to release Him - several times - but crowds incited by the haters demand Jesus be crucified - pilate washes his hands with water to say his hands are clear of Jesus' blood - hardly - pilate has already had Jesus further tortured - whipped with leather straps - then orders the execution
roman soldiers take over from here - they press a crown made of thorns into the flesh of His head - they yank His beard from His face - spit on Him - strike Him with a staff - now beaten beyond recognition the soldiers make Him carry the cross - the cross they will crucify Him on

and the ordeal is not over - not by a long shot - Jesus hangs on the cross for 6 hours - in agony - enduring more mockery - and rejection - feeling forsaken by His closest friends - even His Father in heaven - 6 hours - until 3pm - until death - finally - mercifully
so how's your day been? - thinking about all Jesus went through - and that He did it all for you and me - to pay for our sin - to bring us back to God - i'd say it's been a good friday
