follow me

"follow me" - Jesus spoke these words to matthew - matthew immediately left his job to become a disciple

Jesus said the same words to phillip - he immediately went and found nathanael - and nathanael also became a disciple of Jesus

with the same words Jesus invited two brothers simon and andrew - they immediately left their nets - perhaps still in the water - we know from other scriptures that there were others fishing with them - possibly other brothers - maybe some long time friends - matthew remembered their father was there - all these were also left behind

immediately - all four men - it was the same way with james and john

here is my point - the first step in following Jesus is away - it doesn't mean you leave your whole life behind and never return to your family or friends - but it does mean you are willing to - it doesn't mean you cut yourself off from them - hopefully your new walk with Jesus will impact them - like phillip and nathanael - phillip had an immediate impact on nathanael - he didn't mince words - he didn't offer to go hang out - there was an immediate step away from the old life - and it is that immediate transformation - probably more than anything else - that will impact those around you

so what obvious changes has your decision to follow Jesus made in your life?
