prepare a bushel

the grain offering - it was not just raw grain but flour - about a bushel - mixed with oil - salt - including frankincense also - it could either be raw or cooked - but it had to be without leaven - or yeast

flour - bread - staple of life - the symbold of life - Jesus was called The Bread of Life - our sustenance - this flour was to be of the best quality - fully ground by the millstone - finely sifted - removing all coarseness and lumps - Jesus was of such perfect character - finely sifted - refined - pure

oil - a symbol of the Holy Spirit - the oil was mingled in the flour - symbolizing the inner work of the Holy Spirit in our lives

salt - it has a purifying influence - a preservative

leaven - a symbol of sin - it was considered abomniable to mix evil with the holy things of God

frankincense - to produce a sweet aroma - this grain offering was an act of worship - and as such must be pleasing to God - or it was not worship!

but the main ingredient was man - the significance of the grain offering is that is has been modified by man - it represents man devoting his work to God - it was not a natural product but something created through man's effort - it contained man's labors - man's fingerprints - even man's heart

this was different than the animal sacrifice which was for atonement of sin - man can contribute nothing for his redemption - but this grain offering was worship - and it insists that man add of himself to the offering!

so today we focus on adding ourselves to our offering - our offering of worship - take five minutes - just have a conversation with God - make it personal - don't talk to Him in third person - don't talk to Him in olde english - i mean unless you normally use thee and thou in your everyday language - just tell Him that you love Him - but only if you really do - just tell Him how awed you are of Him - but only if you really are - tell Him - right now
