family junk

family junk was an awesome closing to this year's junk in the trunk series - i have one more thing to share with you

this whole thing of stuff passing down from one generation to the next - the basis of the sermon - it was supposed to be a good thing - God didn't set it up to be a negative - look back at genesis 1 - or listen to the podcast if you missed the sermon - it was intended to be your heritage - your legacy

the thing that makes it a bad thing is what you are leaving as your legacy - if addictions - poverty - crime - then it is bad - but it could also be a good family name - a strong financial standing - a record of community service - a kind of spiritual philanthropy

the same is true for your attitude toward God - toward God's Word - toward church - how you approach your commitment to God will pass down to your kids - to 3 or 4 generations - so we better be concerned about our attitude - our commitment - or lack thereof - if God is #10 on my priority list He's not going to be #1 in my kids' lives!

so today is a good time for a checkup - if you have kids look at their lives - how do they approach God - or how do they neglect Him - they learned it from you - we need to decide what needs to change about our attitude to help them unlearn - and relearn - to help them develop a life of commitment

if you don't have kids yet i have great news - you haven't messed them up yet like the rest of us - so begin building your spiritual legacy today! while you are building your retirement - while establishing your reputation and good name - don't forget - develop your spiritual legacy that will pass down for thousands of generations - not just 3 or 4 - that's what God said (see sunday's sermon)
