culture junk part 3

Jesus told this parable:

luke 8:5 A sower went out to sow his seed...
7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it.
14 And the ones that fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity.

that's what culture's junk does to us - constantly - we hear God's awesome plan for our life - and eternity - but just hearing doesn't mean we're mature - to bear fruit of an awesome Christ-follower - to receive good things God wants us to have - to live the dream God is dreaming for us - we have to go deep

being concerned with culture's junk keeps us from having deep roots - our culture is shallow - things it offers are short-term - easily lost - nothing of lasting value there - don't live on the surface - go deep!

sundays are great - an awesome time of worship - they challenge us - prayer, too - but if we forget what God started on sunday - culture's junk chokes it out - all the good that happened on sunday is gone - come on - that last statement deserves a big amen - because I know you relate to it - that's what happens to most sunday church attenders - a great sunday is only a faint memory by tuesday

but look what Jesus said about those who went deep

Luke 8:8 But others fell on good ground, sprang up, and yielded a crop a hundredfold.
15 But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.

the "hundredfold" comment Jesus made - basically they receive more fruit than they imagine - the secret is here - they don't simply hear what God has to say - they "keep it" - they think about it the next day - and the next - they listen - not carelessly - but with noble intentions - with intent to nurture - to protect everything God said to them!

the fruit - the reward - it is received through "patience" - a reminder - awesome dreams take time - but even so it is a definitive statement - they did bear fruit!

so what did God speak to you - last sunday - the sunday before - in your devotion time last week - keep it - think on it - act on it - protect it - go deep with it - and receive all God is dreaming for you!
