last month i wrote how the church had funded a well-drilling project for the bread of life orphanage in brosteni romania - the giving toward the project exceeded the need by about $12,000 - good thing - they experienced all kinds of trouble getting the well drilled
first of all here is the need - here is one of the resident boys from the orphanage - em
il is holding a pitcher of the city water that comes through the pipes at the orphanage - before you get too upset let me tell you that no the workers don't make the kids drink it - they travel miles into the mountains to a spring to haul water for drinking - a monumental task for more than 80 kids plus staff - but they have to use this water for cleaning - it has to be strained before they can even wash the floors with it - something had to be done
so funds were raised in excess of the projected $5,500 needed for the well - first word back from romania was exciting - the new well was the talk of the town - people would stand at the orphanage fence and just watch the drilling - wondering if they too would be allowed to drink from the well - the answer is yea - this orphanage doesn't just receive - they raise more crops than they need in order to share with the widows and the state-run orphanage in town - they even send to a nearby leper colony - for the orphanage, this well will be the same opportunity Jesus had to share the good news with the samaritan woman!
but then the drilling company quit because they ran into rock - then another company was hired and quit - then a 3rd was hired and quit - the 4th company tried to quit but the orphanage insisted they continue since they had signed a contract - finally - after 2 weeks of drilling - they were through the 9 foot layer of rock that had kept this entire town from the abundant fresh water just 60 feet beneath them - but delays persisted
they began pumping out the dirt and rock debris - a lot of it - the result of drilling through so much rock - the pump got clogged with the debris and was destroyed - a new pump was purchased and installed and the filtering continued - the temperature dropped that night to 2 - that's not a typo - 2 above zero - so the water in the pipe froze and had to be thawed before the pumping and filtering could be finished
after all the delays it is finally done - last Sunday the orphanage hosted a meal for widows and the street children in town - the tea - the soup - the meal was all prepared with water from the new well!
cecil pagel sent me a video late last night of himself and emil with the new well - he is the founder and director of the orphanage - you can view it here - it only takes about a minute to download and is worth it
please praise the Lord with us!
