it's not really - not according to the calendar - but maybe it is for you
"it's groundhog day" is a line heard over and over in one of my favorite movies - maybe my #1 favorite
the lead character is a weatherman named phil - same name as the famous groundhog in punxsatawney pennsylvania - phil hates this holiday because he has to travel to what he calls hickville every february 2nd and cover the groundhog - you know - whether he see his shadow or not
on one such trip something strange happens - on what is supposed to be february 3rd - it is groundhog day again - the morning team on the radio are doing the same shtick - he passes the same guy in the hall on his way to breakfast - the b&b owner makes the same small talk - passes the same homeless man - meets the same obnoxious old friend in the street - steps in the same icy mud puddle - you get the idea - and it happens again the next day - and the next
that icy mud puddle - he steps in it every single day - his foot, his shoe and his sock gets soaked - and the obnoxious friend makes the same corny joke every day - until phil does something different
today is not february 2nd - not on the calendar - but for some of us it is groundhog day - we live the same rut - we have the same problems - we struggle with the same sins - we face the same fears and anxieties
what's the answer? what will get us out of our own little time loop? same thing that got phil out of his - do something different - you have purpose - the prophet jeremiah told us that God created us on purpose - and we have a purpose - you need to find it - and live it!
at 7pm on wednesday nights throughout the summer, we're using clips from the movie groundhog day as a backdrop for a study on purpose - we invite you to join us
