king david wanted to build a permanent temple for God - but that was not God's plan - not only would david not get to build it, he wouldn't even see it - it would be built after his death - so David did everything but build it - the first few verses of 2 chronicles 29 says he set aside gold, silver, bronze, precious stones, marble and more - out of his own pocket - for a temple he would never even have the privilege of praying in
but david was so excited over the house of God that would be built some day - he even gave a beautiful soliloquy praising God - part of it, verse 11, says this
Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is Yours. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom; You are exalted as head over all.
what an awesome definition of the word sovereign! and now we know the context:
- it was from a man after God's own heart - according to acts 13:22
- it was this man's response to God telling him "no"
amazing! think about it - God tells him no and david begins singing God's praise!
maybe this is the definition of being "a man after God's own heart" - knowing God is sovereign - and liking it - no matter what
